Before the holidays we had some very excited children enter the Year 3 and 4 handball tournament at Noel Baker. All very proud to be wearing their sports kit, some wearing it for the first time! With a few wobbles early on, would we be good enough to win the tournament?
We arrived early so we could have a special training session before the other schools arrived and talked tactics, then before we knew it, it was time to start. There were 5 teams in total (it was supposed to be 6 but unfortunately some of our players didn’t turn up so we only entered one team instead of two).
Our first match was against Wyndham A team and unfortunately we lost 2-0, but our next match we managed to draw 1-1 and spirits were lifted again.
We played the next 6 matches with increasing confidence and won each in turn as tactics came more into play and our defence strengthened. A fantastic goal that needs to be mentioned was scored by Jacob Stonach who was our goal keeper for this particular match and threw a fantastic shot from our goal straight into the oppositions goal for a fantastic finish and win for our team.
Now came the moment where we waited while the scores were added together and we found out which two teams were through to the final. The first team were called and it was Wyndam A who had beaten us in that first match, everyone had their fingers crossed that we would be the second team… and we were!
Everyone was so excited to be through to the final but we knew we had to play our very best. The defence had grown from strength to strength with every match and the attacking players had taken shots at every opportunity but this team were also very good. It came to full time and we had won 1-0. Everyone tried their hardest and it was a fantastic tournament to take part in and we now have our first trophy of the year, handball Year 3 and 4 champions of 2015.
